About me

Reluctantly crouched at the starting line. I'm a driver, I'm a winner. Things are gonna change, I can feel it. He's fighting and biting and riding on his horse. He's going the distance. He's going for speed. He's going the distance. Ahh... / Ah. Words to remember: neoteny. cynosure. immanent. mercantilism. teleology.Read more about me »

I’m going to open this tumblr up to include things a little bit broader than the immediate scope of what-is-going-on-in-the-video-game-I’m-writing because I have put so much behind this project that I have neglected also creating a general homepage. I have a halfway home-page on tumblr under the title ‘Hurricane What’s-Her-Name’ but I never update it, so I’m going to just start adding everything I feel like HERE. So, it either won’t matter because I am hardly posting anything, related to the game or not, besides random photos posted from flickr updated by queue, or it might cause me to lose focus on the game as an individuum and have it seep more into everyday space. Or, what I think is more likely, it will simply grow, and I will post more often and simply have more output in general, and thus more output for the game. Because I have been working on it, I’ve been whiling away my days programming 32×32 pixel square-based levels for as long as this blog has been active, and I could say “I think I’ll even release a demo soon” but then that’d be hanging out there when it takes me another eight months or something to show anything. So, in the meantime, I’ll tell you what I’ve been reading.

I’ve been rereading ‘The Royal Family’ by William T. Vollmann. This is an amazing book by an amazing author, and that is an understatement because amazing is a single word when this man has written probably billions and all of them, incredibly, seem thoughtful and labored and effortless and meaningful and joyously full of life in all worthwhile measures. I am about halfway through this time around, and this is actually the book which was like, the first huge novel I ever read, back in high school, which I realize now was a pretty ambitious feat. But I don’t remember as much of it as I would if I had read it with more experience in the mountain climbing sport of thousand page novel reading. But it is awesome, and it is a great book for me to be reading at the moment, and it feels dark and dangerous and serious while the rest of my life is mostly a bunch of crap, sad to say.

But, anyway.

I’ll be releasing a demo pretty soon. I’m still working on the game. These things take time. I hope to be posting more often about various things. See you in the funny papers.

Trying to get someone with better photoshop skills than me to make a bar sign for this location in my game. The bar is called ‘Camp Concentration’ after the Thomas Disch novel. I really suck at photoshop. I already posted this on RPGMaker.net forums so hopefully someone will help me out, but feel free to make a sign with a girl winking/smiling with some neon/black coloring with the bar’s name, final product around 150 pixels at the longest side.

Monday, April 29th, 2013

“I don’t understand people who say, “Why does evil exist in the world? How can a God allow it?” If God didn’t allow evil, there would be no salvation. According to his own rule book, God’s plan cannot function without that lapse of justice. God allows evil, because it serves his purposes. It’s just politics.”
